Strengthening California’s Infrastructure
WHEREAS California politicians have long ignored and under-funded California’s parks, roads, bridges, levees, and hospitals; and
WHEREAS it took over 45 years to do the repairs for the Long Beach earthquake and the bridge repairs for the 1989 San Francisco earthquake are still continuing; and
WHEREAS the collapse of the Delta levee system could imperil 22 million people and a major earthquake could collapse most local hospitals in California;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the California Democratic Council support a combination of bond issues and tax increases on major corporations and the rich to enable the state to finance repairs to our state infrastructure; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the California Democratic Party, and Democratic state legislatures be informed of this position.
