Calling for the Impeachment of George Bush and Richard Cheney
WHEREAS, President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney have repeatedly and intentionally violated the Constitution of the United States causing the People to question the integrity of both the President and Vice President and to suspect that high crimes and misdemeanors have been committed. [These violations include, but are not limited to: 1) Violating the People’s Constitutional right to privacy in their persons and papers; 2) Conspiring to deprive United States citizens of Constitutional legal protections and access to Justice when charged with or suspected of crimes; 3) Exceeding Constitutional Authority to wage war by invading a sovereign nation in direct defiance of the United Nations Security Council; 4) Acting upon an interpretation of the Constitution (the “unitary executive”) that ignores standard Separation of Powers and regards the Presidency as unlimited in ability to wage war, bypass civil liberties and remain above the law ]; and
WHEREAS, President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney repeatedly and intentionally misled the Congress, the International Community and the American People as to the risks posed by Iraq, as well as other groups or nations and these misrepresentations, and the actions they triggered, resulted in substantial loss of life to the People of the United States, loss of national treasure and the diminution of our nation’s standing in the world. [Such misrepresentations include, but are not limited to: 1) Influencing, manipulating and distorting intelligence prepared by national agencies; 2) Knowingly and publicly presenting untrue statements regarding Saddam Hussein and that Iraq had fully active Chemical and Biological Programs as well; 3) Presenting doctored photographs and satellite images to the domestic and international community to support such lies and manipulations ]; and
WHEREAS, President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney have engaged in a pattern of behavior that could be considered to be War Crimes per the Geneva Accords, United Nations Charter and other international treaties to which the United States is a signatory. [This behavior includes, but is not limited to: 1) Use of torture, 2) Rendering persons to a third party where they will undergo torture and 3) Confinement without access to courts of law ]; and
WHEREAS, President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney have abused their powers under the Constitution and engaged in a pattern of lying and deceit to cover up such abuses which include, but are not limited to: 1) Excessive and obstructive use of Presidential Signing Statements; 2) Prohibiting, delaying and limiting cabinet members and staff members of the Administration from providing information to Congress in support of Congress’ standard oversight role; 3) Revealing the identity of a covert CIA agent (Valerie Plame) engaged in Middle East intelligence work; and 4) Undermining the integrity, readiness and efficacy of governmental agencies such that the People are not reliably served and have reason to doubt the fair and equitable use of national resources;
Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the California Democratic Council members, support the impeachment of George W. Bush, President of the United States and Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States for high crimes and misdemeanors. We consider this a local, state and federal issue and a U.S. Constitutional mandate. As citizens of California, we strongly request that each of our Federal and State Senators, our State Assembly-persons, our U S Representatives and our City Council members, immediately pressure the Congress of the United States, to institute proceedings for the investigation of the activities of President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney, to the end that they may be impeached and removed from such offices if such impeachment is warranted.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this CDC Impeachment Resolution be presented to every member of the U S Congress, the California State Assembly and Senate, all elected City Council members in the state and to any other interested parties.
